The 60th Anniversary of Africa Day

Image
O n May 25th, the African continent celebrates the 60th anniversary of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) and its successor, the African Union. It was on this date in 1963, that 32 Heads of independent African States met in Addis Ababa Ethiopia along with leaders from African liberation movements to craft a way forward for Africa’s complete independence from imperialism, colonialism and apartheid. The outcome of the meeting was the creation of Africa’s first post-independence continental institution, the Organisation of African Unity (OAU). The OAU was formed as a manifestation of the pan-African vision for an Africa that was united, free and in control of its own destiny and this was solemnized in the OAU Charter which was adopted on May 25 , 1963. The celebration of the 60th anniversary is an opportunity to recognize the role and contribution of the founders of the continental organization and many other Africans on the continent and in the diaspora who have contributed gre...

“I had nothing but a dream, and a faith in pursuing it” -Francis Ngannou

Today, my  friend  Ekene Banye shared an incredible and   one of the most inspirational documentaries of the year on YouTube. You can watch it here It’s the incredible journey of Francis N’Gannou from Cameroon to become the UFC Harvey Champion.   Francis N’Gannou was born in Cameroon; as a child, he witnessed domestic violence against his mother. He worked as a child sand miner before he decide the travel to Europe through the treacherous Sahara desert and the Mediterranean sea to Spain.   In this amazing story, there are many lessons for young people all over the world and I learnt the following:    Lesson 1: Life is hard, and no one is coming to save you.   Lesson 2: You need a purpose/vision for your life.   Lesson 3: You must have a WHY to drive you to achieve your goals.   Lesson 4: To ensure that you do not give up because of the obstacle in your way, you need demonstrated commitment, and persistence to take action toward your goal...

Le Laboureur et ses enfants

Image

For most people, their education ends when their salary begins.

In his book   entitled Wisdom , my good friend Elijah Mwape elaborated inspiring points worth guiding anyone seeking growth, purpose and hope in life. Today, I am sharing with you his insights on negativity, degree and skill set and being qualified. Enjoy the read.   QUALIFIED The world has standards and a system that people expect you to live by. What happens if you fail to reach those standards? Does it mean you are disqualified? The answer is No! Being uneducated does not disqualify you. Being unmarried does not disqualify you. Having no car does not disqualify you. Having no house does not disqualify you. The essence of your life is found only in your identity and your purpose in life. You can be broke now but your dreams are not broken. If God created you with his own plan, then you are more than qualified. The reason for your existence is not measured by your material gains but by the quality of your life in impacting humanity in a positive way.  ...

Conflict is unavoidable but manageable

Image
In the past few days, I have been taking courses on Conflict Management in the Workplace. We all face conflict whether it be at workplaces or in our homes and believe me, n o team will agree on everything, so disagreements and conflicts are inevitable. As a good student of  Joeel & Natalie Rivera, serial entrepreneurs, authors, speakers, and educators, I wish to share with you some insightful tips of managing your emotions and remaining calm as a way of de escalating a conflict at workplace. Renowned therapist John Gottman says that “Ninety-six percent of conversations that start badly will end badly.” There is truth to this statement. When handling a conflict, whether it is your own or someone else’s, the most important factor is how the conversation begins. And the most important factor for that will be your emotional state. This is why the ability to regulate your emotions and remain calm is so important. Check-In:  The first ste...
